Update! Help Needed at Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank
I've just learned from a volunteer who signed up through the signup genius link in this email, that the Southern Baptist Disaster Response has passed along incorrect information for volunteering with the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank.
This is what is on the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank’s website:
Beginning Monday, March 23, and until further notice, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will be redirecting all volunteer activities to our distributions located in the community in which we serve.
Under an abundance of caution, and for the safety of our volunteers, staff, and the community, we are no longer utilizing volunteers in the Repack Center in our warehouse in Duquesne, PA. We made this difficult decision so that we adhere to the social distancing guidelines and so that we are not encouraging groups of more than ten to gather. For more information, please email us at volunteer@pittsburghfoodbank.org or call 412-745-7600.
If you volunteered through the signup genius link, please disregard. If you want to volunteer, use the official information from the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.
Dear Church Family, I’m sharing the message below from our Conference Disaster Response Coordinator spreading the word that volunteers are needed at the Pittsburgh Food Bank.
Good morning, this message comes with my thoughts and prayers that all of you are healthy and safe. In this time, there is such a need for spiritual support, as well as physical and emotional. The Southern Baptist Disaster Response (SBDR) have been asked to coordinate getting help for the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank. They have put together a web page at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/gpcfb.
The need is for volunteers between 14 and 65 to work between 9 AM and 12 PM or 1 PM and 4 PM each weekday for the month of April. Volunteers do not have to work every day; they can go as they are available or able. The Food Bank is going to provide gloves, and the SBDR is shipping masks for the volunteers. It is my understanding that this is warehouse work—packing boxes—and there is no contact with people outside of the facility.
The volunteers will need to go to the Food Bank facility at 1 North Linden Street, Duquesne, PA. If you are available, please register on the sign-up genius webpage so that the SBDR can monitor volunteers and ensure that there is not an excess of people at any one time.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
