Caring for Our Neighbors
The Outreach Committee purchased 5 cases of various sized diapers and 4 cases of baby wipes using its budget allocation. Those were delivered to Sewickley Community Center Food Pantry (Pantry) on April 6th, along with 11 Easter bags and 11 Giant Eagle gift cards. Sewickley UMC's liaison with the food pantry, Miriam Rader, was amazed that the church had been able to collect Easter bags during the current crisis. The woman receiving the donations expressed gratitude as well, as there has been a doubling in the number of families being served, and further increase in usage is expected. Families known to have little ones will be provided the diapers and wipes. Additionally, the availability of those items will be shared with any new families.
As long as the Pantry has food supplies, it will be open every 2nd and 4th Wednesday, from 11:30 to 1:00, for a drive-by food pick-up. The 1st, 3rd, and 5th Wednesdays will be for emergencies and by appointment only. Please check their website before going, as things can change. The pantry is located at 15 Chadwick Street, Sewickley and is open to Quaker Valley School District residents. The upcoming dates are: April 22nd, May 13th and 27th. The pantry will accept food donations on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month (April 13, April 27, May 11, May 25) between 9 and 11 am at the Sewickley Community Center (or drop them at church from 8 am to 1 pm Monday through Friday or contact Martha Boward to make other arrangements). If you would like to give financially, you may do so to the Pantry or through the church, marking Sewickley Food Pantry.
