Outreach to Sewickley Community Center Food Pantry and Red Bird Mission

To help meet the increased needs at the Food Pantry, SUMC provided household cleaner and paper towels for distribution to the patrons. Outreach will continue to communicate with the Food Pantry to determine items most needed to meet the continuing needs.

The 2019 Red Bird Mission Team authorized use of funds remaining from that mission to purchase 4 cases of diapers for Red Bird community distributions. Additionally, the Outreach Committee shipped 2 cases of baby wipes, 4 gallons of hand sanitizer, and elastic and bias tape to Red Bird. The elastic and bias tape will aid community members in sewing face masks needed in the community. SUMC Outreach Committee is also funding the shipping of cotton face masks (made by an SUMC congregant) and new children’s clothing/underwear (donated by Mission & More of the Olive Branch fair trade store) to Red Bird Mission. Spools of thread were added to the most recent shipment; again, to help Red Bird community members sew needed face masks.

As Red Bird Mission works to re-open its outreach to the community and as the anticipated August schools re-opening approaches, the SUMC Outreach Committee will continue to seek ways to support the work of Red Bird Mission. SUMC has a long-standing relationship with Red Bird Mission, having sent teams for many yearly summer work sessions. You may learn more about the Red Bird Mission by visiting https://rbmission.org/.

Increased support to both the Sewickley Community Center Food Pantry and Red Bird Mission is only  possible due to the SUMC Outreach Committee’s receipt of Miracle Sunday funding.
