UMC Disaster Response
The United Methodist Church and UMCOR are actively responding to numerous storms, floods, and other natural disasters throughout the US, including in western PA. Here are ways you can help:
Contribute toward SUMC’s Cleaning Kit collection. These funds will be used to replenish the East-brook Mission Barn’s supply of “flood buckets,” which contain essential supplies needed to sanitize and clean flooded homes. Donations may be made with your regular offering or by EasyTithe. Please mark your donation “UMCOR Cleaning Kits.”
Contribute to UMCOR’s US Disaster Response fund. You may contribute through your regular offering or EasyTithe (please mark your donation UMCOR US Disaster Response) or by donating directly to UMCOR at: umcmission.org/advance-project/901670.
Westmoreland County was heavily affected by flooding on August 5. The WPA Conference disaster response team needs volunteers to help remove drywall, paneling, and other debris and to assist with other clean-up measures. No experience is needed, just a willingness to work and follow instructions. If there is sufficient interest, SUMC can assemble a team to assist with this clean-up. If interested, please contact Barbara Bower or the church office.
