Leadership Board
In the month of January, we have done a lot of work and are excited to share it with you. In this post, you will find the Mission, Vision, and Core Values. You will also find an outline of what is included in a Leadership Board Packet. Please reach out to any of our members with any questions you might have. As a reminder, the members are Mark Benjamin, Laura Powell, Dan Gittins, Kristine Swaney, Ron Smith, Jere Cowden, Lynn Colosi, Pam Honeychurch, and Jenine Furry, who is the chair of the Leadership Board
Mission: Make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
This is the mission of the United Methodist Church. As members of the United Methodist community, that means this is our mission as well. As followers of Jesus Christ, this is simply following the commands that he has set before us in Matthew 28:16-20.
Vision: Be present in the community as a welcoming and growing Church, living out the radical love of Jesus in vital ways.
It was once asked by a D.S., and then we (LB) read it repeated in John Edmund Kaiser’s book titled, Winning on Purpose, if you (the church) were no longer a part of the community, what would they (the community) miss? This is a great question that was the driver behind the vision statement. Each church’s vision should be unique to their culture and ethos when it comes to how they live out the mission of making disciples. How, then, are we making disciples in a way that the community would miss? We are present in the community. We don’t just stay within our walls. We are welcoming to ALL who we meet. We are a church that is growing and not dying. All these things are informed by, encouraged by, and strengthened by the radical love of Jesus, which we will live out in ways that serve our community.
Core Values:
We welcome and want all persons, regardless of age, race, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, ethnic and religious background, marital status, immigration status, socio-economic class, and disability.
We serve and engage others with empathy, compassion, dignity, and respect.
We believe in the sanctity of scripture as holy and alive. As the inspired word of God, we do not interpret it literally, but through the Holy Spirit with our experience, reason, and tradition as our guide.
We pursue peace and justice for the marginalized and underserved by giving our time, talent, and resources.
