Summer Growth Group and Spiritual Development Opportunities

June Growth Group Opportunity

Join us on June 4th at 6:00 pm in the Simpson Room. In light of Pride Month, we will study a book called “The Bible’s YES to Same-Sex Marriage” by Mark Achtemeier. It will be a 4-week study ending on June 25th. The book is a bit on the pricier side. Please let me know if you need help getting it, and it will be cared for.

Emotionally Healthy Discipleship Course

Beginning June 17th at 6:00 pm in the Simpson Room, the Nominations and Lay Leadership Development Committee will be leading a course called Emotionally Healthy Discipleship by Peter Scazzero. The book can be purchased on many different sites, including on Amazon and Christianbooks.com. A study guide will be provided to those who join the class. This course is designed to help us go deeper and more authentically into our own discipleship journeys. It really challenges our sense of spiritual maturity and helps us grow in our faith. This course is born out of a commitment to the Lay Leadership Development portion of the committee previously mentioned. It is our hope to help develop and identify Christian leaders in the life of our church. Whether you believe that is you or not, EVERYONE is invited to be a part of this course and work intentionally on the growth of their discipleship. Please see Pastor Hannah if you have any questions.

Cultural Diversity Training and ESL Course Sign-up

One of the greatest barriers to making cross cultural connections is language. This is both the spoken language and the unspoken language. As part of our new ministry initiative to make connections with our siblings in the Hispanic community, we will be teaching an ESL course (English as a Second Language). Before we jump into teaching ESL, it is important we are sensitive to the differences in our cultural understandings. On June 13th, Judy Haluka will be leading us in a Cultural Diversity Training workshop. The training will go from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. For anyone interested, Judy will stay from 8:00 – 9:00 pm and teach some basic Spanish phrases, so we are able to greet the participants in the ESL class warmly. Please see Liz Giglia or Pastor Hannah if you have any questions.
