Time Capsule

This article was originally published in the church newsletter in 1996 after the new time capsule was laid.

Author Unknown (may have been Paul Collier)

On May 8 of this year, 1996, the time capsule was opened in a private ceremony, and many members were disappointed when the glass jar was broken and the contents had turned to dust. We hope that when this capsule is opened in a hundred years, the people will not be disappointed. So many people gave us ideas and donated items, we couldn’t possibly thank them all. We want the future to have a sense of what was happening in the year of 1996 at SUMC, the community, in Pittsburgh, and in the country. I hope everyone feels we accomplished that. We have tried to acknowledge your giving and have tried to give some information about the donor or the item. The following list is a detailed list of what was placed in the time capsule. This list will also be a permanent record in our archives. Again, we would like to thank everyone for their involvement.
