Foundations: I Believe in Holy Spirit
“Ruah” is one of my favorite Hebrew words. It means breath, life. You see this word, or variations of it, anytime you see God’s life-giving breath in the Old Testament. Then, as we move into the New Testament where Greek is largely used, we see “pneuma” as the word for Spirit, wind, or breath. Again, anytime we see pneuma in scripture, we see something that is life-sustaining and life-giving. The Holy Spirit has been the conduit through which God has created life. The Holy Spirit has been there from the very beginning of creation, to our own rebirths. The Holy Spirit continues to give us life and sustain our lives. As one of the persons (we use that limited word loosely) of the Trinity, we will seek to understand how the Holy Spirit works in the world and in our lives.
