The story of John the Baptist’s birth begins our journey to the manger. Our journey begins with a rather unexpected twist on an otherwise normal night. Zechariah (John’s Father) never thought his normal of faithful duties would be interrupted by a visitor from heaven. Together, Zechariah and Elizabeth (John’s mother) show us how embracing the unexpected, regardless of external pressures, as an opportunity to live out our faith, can impact far more than just our own legacies, but entire communities, and in their case, the world.
