In this controversial passage, Jesus tells us it would be better to cut off our hand or take out our eyes if they cause us to sin. Do we really believe that Jesus is all for self-mutilation or bodily harm? After all, other passages tell us our bodies are temples and we are to treat them as sacred. What is so important to Jesus that he would have us go to such extremes to avoid it from happening?
