Does the color of the vessel matter?
In the gospel of John, we are told of Jesus turning water into wine. He used six stone jars to carry out his work. Not once was the color of the vessels mentioned. Does it mean that color is not important? No. Color can be used to break up the boring pattern on a wall and bring it to life. Color can be used to set apart parts on a ship for safer sailing or more visibility. Color can tell us a story. But color does not determine how effective we can be at storing up the good things of God within us and pouring them out for others. Unfortunately, in our broken humanity, it has been used to determine what people are capable of. But that is not God’s story, and God’s story is the one that matters the most! Let’s tell it like Jesus did.
