As families are not being accepted into the program until at least March 2021, Family Promise would like to ready the Crafton location, which the families use during the day. Rooms need to be thoroughly cleaned, painted, decorated, etc. Areas need to be organized. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, the Outreach Committee has funds available for supplies necessary. Please be in direct contact with the Interim Director of Family Promise to set up your work tasks (Georgette Powell; 7 Oregon Avenue, Crafton, PA 15205; 412-921-2916; gpowell@familypromiseswpa.org). You may contact Martha Boward to discuss funding.
Family Promise is one of a few programs that can keep homeless families with children together as the families work to become homed. During the day, the families receive services through a house in Crafton—setting up benefits, getting job training, gaining employment, learning budgeting skills, locating suitable housing, etc. From dinner through the night, the families are housed at rotating churches, sleeping on air mattresses. Sewickley UMC once hosted the families but has since supported two host churches. SUMC looks forward to resuming that support once Family Promise is able to safely accept new families.
