UMCOR and its partners are responding to disasters both in the United States and around the world. Some current efforts:

  • Australia – In response to the severe and unrelenting wildfires in Australia, UMOCR is working with partner organizations to assess current damage and analyze the best route for support.

  • Philippines – The Manila Episcopal Area Disaster Management Office is in contact with their established Disaster Risk Reduction Management volunteer teams in the areas affected by the volcano eruptions, and district churches are initiating plans to support the needs of evacuees.

  • Puerto Rico –  Iglesia Metodista de Puerto Rico and Rebuilding Communities With Hope (ReHace IMPR) are addressing urgent needs, distributing supplies, and conducting assessments and outreach. UMCOR has awarded a solidarity grant to help with immediate needs.

  • Alaska  – Salmon catch for the native Chignik fisheries in Alaska has plunged. To help the community survive this loss of livelihood, UMCOR funds a program to source, transport, and deliver food and pantry items through the winter months.

  • Louisiana/Mississippi – Conference disaster response coordinators have been conducting damage assessments in areas impacted by recent tornadoes.

Please join us by making a donation to the response efforts. 100% of your gift goes directly to furthering the work of UMCOR. Please join in prayer for the areas affected and consider a gift to UMCOR Disaster Response (which you may do with your regular offering or via EasyTithe, marking “UMCOR” – if you wish to specify “domestic” or “international”, please do so).
