While the school year start has been delayed until late September, residential students have arrived at the dorms. Many changes have been implemented throughout the Mission, including renovations at the dental clinic and at the community store. It is hoped that small work groups will be possible beginning in September, which will help make community outreach possible that has been delayed due to COVID-19 restrictions.
If you sew, the Mission is still in need of child/youth-sized face masks and masks in fabric that would appeal to men. Contact Martha Boward with questions or to arrange drop-off of any masks, as Outreach will send those. Links to Amazon wishlists can be found on page 2 of Red Bird’s July newsletter—urgent needs are the children’s masks, disinfectant items, paper products, and baby items. In a recent phone conversation with the Outreach Chair, Tracy Nolan from Red Bird Outreach expressed gratitude to SUMC for the supplies sent over the summer (diapers, hand sanitizer, masks, bias tape, thread, etc.).
