Recently, Eastbrook Mission Barn, our local relief agency supply depot, has sent out 1,224 cleaning buckets to the Greater New Jersey Area, as well as distributing buckets locally for cleanup efforts in Oakdale and Cuddy. After leaving Louisiana, Hurricane Ida raged up the East Coast, powering through parts of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York on the night of September 1. In New Jersey, several tornados touched down, houses and church buildings were flooded, 27 people died, and many had to leave their homes.
When a disaster occurs, the local UMC conference assesses the damage done in communities and church buildings. As sister conferences, we wait to get an invitation and respond when needed. The local conferences provide resources within an area and coordinate response with state, federal, and non-profit agencies with common guidelines and principles.
With this work, cleaning buckets and health kits are greatly needed. To be ready for future needs, your financial donations are needed to help restock the Eastbrook Mission Barn. To donate, indicate UMCOR Supplies on your gift.
