Change is hard for most. Even small things, like changing dinner plans, cause us to pause, rethink, and act anew. God has big plans for his people, and he wants us to change. Through God’s grace, he gives us a way to change. As Christians, we seek to emulate Christ. Wesley believed in Christian perfection, a Christian state where one achieves conformity to God’s will and an unbroken strong relationship with God. Wesley believed that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the world can be transformed one person at a time. Through God’s justifying grace, a person can seek forgiveness and begin again. Through God’s sanctifying grace, people can engage in a personal transformation with each step bringing them closer and closer to God.
According to Wesley, when people feel sanctifying grace, an enormous overwhelming love from God is placed in their hearts, which, in turn, creates a love for all humankind. Through the Holy Spirit, the people’s knowledge and love for God expands, and their love and compassion for the world extends.
