The Add1 Lenten prayer window of the week, as selected by the SUMC youth group/confirmation class, is as follows: first-responders. We can pray for the emergency medical people, the firefighters, law enforcement officers, and all others who respond to challenges in the communities where we live. We can pray for their peace and protection and lift prayers of thanksgiving for their willingness and sacrifice, courage and commitment. We can pray for the families who support them. But this is an Add1 prayer—suggested by Addie, Eva, Jade, Lena, Ben H., Ben W., Dom, and Noah, with the leadership of Felicity and Johnathan—so we can add one more community each day. We can add the communities where we work and worship, where our children attend school, where loved ones live. We can lift prayer as we see the first responders on the road or pass by their stations and workplaces. The FOTC youth are directing the Add1 prayer campaign, hoping that everyone in the church family will add one prayer every day through our Lenten walk toward Easter. Our bulletin board in the Simpson Room, featuring a window looking out onto God’s creation, serves as a reminder to look for prayer opportunities in new places.
