Even in this time of COVID-19, when meeting in person is unsure, we would like to remember our staff with the Christmas purse. The Christmas Purse is our chance, as a congregation, to provide the staff with a gift as a show of appreciation for their hard work.
Pastor Hannah is on maternity leave, returning the week of December 14. During her absence, the Reverend Beth Nelson will be caring for our church. She is a retired clergy in our conference.
Pastor Russel, as well as other retiring pastors, was offered the opportunity to serve part-time in retirement. Pastor Russel accepted the offer and has been appointed by Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi to serve as Senior Pastor of Mifflin Avenue and South Avenue United Methodist Churches in Wilkinsburg effective July 1. After being blessed by Pastor Russel for 14 years, we know these two churches will be equally blessed to have such a gifted, eloquent, dedicated, and selfless pastor.
Announced yesterday morning during our services, Rev. Hannah Loughman has been appointed as our new pastor, once Pastor Russel retires in June. Mark Benjamin, chair of SPRC, stated, “I feel that the Bishop and DS did hear what our congregation was expressing and through the discernment process have made an excellent appointment to Sewickley UMC.“
The Staff Pastor/Parish Relations Committee (SPPRC or SPRC) is collecting for the Staff Christmas Purse. SPRC performs a similar role to the Human Relations (HR) department in a company. The Christmas Purse is our chance, as a congregation, to provide the staff with a Christmas bonus as a show of appreciation for their hard work.
