Ecumenical Advent worship services will be hosted at three churches, including our own, with pastors exchanging pulpits. Each service will be followed by light fellowship.
If you would like to order any poinsettia plants to adorn the chancel for Christmas, please complete an order form found in the rear of the sanctuary, and return it to the office or place in the offering plate with your payment. You may also call the office. Orders are due by noon on Sunday, December 8. Dedications will be included in the Christmas Eve bulletin and in the January Newsletter. If you purchase a poinsettia, you will be able to take it home after the Traditional Service on Christmas Eve.
An ecumenical Thanksgiving worship service will be held here at SUMC on Sunday evening at 6 pm with Rev. Ryan Kovert from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church bringing the message. A free will offering will be received to benefit the Sewickley Community Center Foodbank.
There will be a gathering of all children 5th grade and younger who are interested in participating in this year’s Christmas Pageant on Sunday following the 11:00 service in the sanctuary. Those children who are unable to attend but interested in participating, please see Pastor Russel.
All Saints’ Day is a day of remembrance for the saints. During both services this Sunday, November 3, we will celebrate the communion of saints, as we remember those who transitioned to life eternal, both from the Church universal and our local congregation. Following the 11 am service, a luncheon will be held in the Simpson Room. Donations are needed of side dishes and salads. Main course and dessert will be provided. Help with cleanup is also needed. Contact Sandy Kuriger or Belinda Resler. Everyone is welcome to attend.
New members will be received on October 27 during both services. If you would like to officially join Sewickley UMC, please let Pastor Russel or the office know.
VIM recognizes the important work of putting Christian love into action across the globe. The special offering on October 20th is designated for work within WPAUMC. To give, include your additional gift with your regular offering or EasyTithe, marking “VIM”.
In order to offset costs of our camps and retreat centers, WPAUMC churches are asked to take a special Camping Sunday offering. To give to Camping Sunday, you many include your additional gift with your regular offering or use EasyTithe, marking “camping”.
On this worldwide day of unity, the offering benefits World Communion Scholarships, the Ethnic Scholarship Program, and the Ethnic In-Service Training Program.
This Sunday is the deadline to place your order for flowers to adorn the chancel on Easter Sunday. Order forms are available in the back of the sanctuary, or you can download and print the PDF, so you can complete it and bring it in with you.
This Sunday, during the 11 am service, we celebrate our 2019 Confirmation Class as they are Confirmed: Winston Clifford, Benjamin Heinzl, David McCombs, Sean McCombs, Victoria Reardon, and Madeline Sollinger.
Volunteers are needed to serve as usher during the 11 am service this Sunday as well as March 17 and 24.
Ash Wednesday dinner and worship will be observed on Wednesday, March 6, at SUMC, when we come together with St. Matthew’s AME Zion Church. The evening will begin with our traditional meatless meal at 6 pm; please bring a meatless side dish or salad to share. Fish and macaroni and cheese will be provided. The service will begin at 7 pm.
Special Offering – February 17th – This special offering helps promote awareness issues and supports Western PA Conference ministries that provide opportunities for fuller inclusion of people with disabilities.
Human Relations Day calls United Methodists to recognize the right of all God’s children in realizing their potential as human beings in relationship with one another. The special offering benefits neighborhood ministries through Community Developers, community advocacy through United Methodist Voluntary Services, and work with at-risk teens through the Youth Offender Rehabilitation Program.
Sunday, December 30, is a 5th Sunday. When there is a 5th Sunday in a month, it is our chance to give extra to help pay down the principal on the sanctuary loan, which is currently at $182,336.44.
The children’s christmas pageant is this Sunday, December 16, during both services. Come enjoy an “Incredible Christmas” starring the children in our church family.
Kids 5th grade and younger! Join us to be a part of An Incredible Christmas for our kids pageant this year. We will be practicing on Sundays, 1-2 pm on December 2 & 9.
