Reverend Marilyn Hegert Evans

Reverend Marilyn Hegert Evans, age 72, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at her home in Sewickley, PA. Her wife Mary Jablonski was at her side. Marilyn was born in Sewickley to Marcel and Dorothy Hegert. She grew up in Sewickley and graduated from Quaker Valley High School in 1967. She attended Edinboro University in PA and graduated in 1971 with a teaching degree. She later answered her call to Ministry and attended United Theological Center in Minneapolis, MN where she received her Master’s Degree in Divinity. Marilyn served churches in Anoka, MN, as Lead Pastor in Proctor, MN and as Lead Pastor at Brooklyn United Methodist Church in Brooklyn Center, MN.

Her passion in Ministry was social justice, working to insure that all are treated fairly and with God's love and compassion. She served as a mentor to many who shared her deep and abiding love for Jesus Christ.  “Be Light where there is darkness. Share the hope of God’s immeasurable love.” Marilyn retired four times—being called back to Ministry three times. Her fourth and last retirement was in 2018, when she and Mary packed up their Anoka home and moved to Sewickley. Marilyn and Mary enjoyed traveling—especially to London and historic sites all over the US. She continued to teach classes at her new hometown church, and now had time to read books for pleasure. She loved planning gardens and planning home restorations.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers David and William. She is survived by her wife Mary; her niece Sheila (Tim) DeHaven, great-niece and great-nephew Taylor and Nick DeHaven; her sisters-in-law Karen Hegert, Sandy Hegert (John Gilbert), and Linda Jablonski; her brothers-in-law Peter Jablonski and David Jablonski, and Kelly and Robert Jablonski. She also became reacquainted with her wonderful cousins Denise Gray (Sam) Pagani, Gail Gray and John Lawrence; George and Patty Gary; Mary Catherine, Regis and Caitlin Kiliany; Tim Gray and Diana Wade; Tori, Zach, Amora and Ronan Miller.

Marilyn’s funeral will be held on Saturday, April 2 at 11:00 am, at Sewickley United Methodist Church. Pastor Hannah Loughman will officiate.
