Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.

Poet John Donne had it right when he said, “no man is an island…” As we find ourselves in the ongoing season of imposed restrictions due to COVID-19, this statement once again is proven to be true. It is painfully clear that we need each other. Some of those restrictions are in place due to the fact that when we gather together, the risk of spreading the infection increases. So not only do we need each other, but our actions greatly impact one another. This is no different when it comes to the act of surrender. Though it is most often in our modern age a personal decision, it has far reaching communal implications. Jesus is the light that shines in the darkness, and when we surrender to the will of God, that light shines in our hearts. It is no mystery then, that the same light that shines in our hearts touches those around us. Surrender is never just a personal decision.
