Mahatma Gandhi said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” We understand that not all animals are dearly loved by us. We don’t take them and turn them into pets or fully understand what purpose they serve. To be honest, some of them we smash and/or flush down the toilet because they are where they don’t belong. But the statement made by Mahatma Gandhi is true: the way we treat those with less power than ourselves says everything about our moral values. As God was making sure the Israelites took a Sabbath Rest, God also made sure the same grace was extended to the animals. Everything created under heaven and on earth has value in the eyes of God. How do we treat that which God values?
