The journey Jesus was about to begin was going to take him to the depth of hell and up to the gates of heaven. A little extra preparation was necessary. He might not have prepared in a way we find attractive, but it was effective. Jesus was tempted, tested, and comforted in order to strengthen his soul for the road ahead.
