There are a lot of basic needs we all have in common, and one of them is to eat. It is simple. In order to live, we need food. Our responsibility to make sure all have food and all have access to food is not dependent on our wealth or our gifts; it is a simple matter of our humanity. Jesus recognized the difference between what people wanted and what people needed. When it came to that which people needed, he was generous to ensure it was provided. However, he often left it up to his disciples to distribute that need. It did not matter who was better with money, who had the sharpest tongue, or who even had the most giving heart—it was simply a matter of our humanity and our responsibility in service to Jesus.
