You know you secretly love dad jokes! However, did you know they have their own definition? According to Merriam-Webster, a dad-joke is defined as, “a wholesome joke of the type said to be told by fathers with a punchline that is often an obvious or predictable pun or play on words and usually judged to be endearingly corny or unfunny.” I bet a good many of us have a couple dad jokes up our sleeves, regardless of if they have actually come from a father figure or not. What I particularly like about them is “a punchline that is often an obvious or predictable pun.” I like predictability. It makes me feel safe and secure. This predictability is at the center of our relationship with Jesus Christ. We can trust that he will always be there; he won’t let us down, even if he does make himself known at the most unexpected times in the most unexpected ways. Just like a dad joke!
